“Romantic Decay”
The finished piece. After printing my model, I weathered and detailed it by hand (with the exception of the text-which was printed into the piece).
A 3D rendering of '“Romantic Decay”. I would use this digital model to 3D print the gravestone itself, as well as plan out materials needed, lengths, placements, etc.
I recently participated in a local art show, “Pretty Ugly”, in August of 2025, which was created and curated by the Crow Collective. The Crow Collective is an art collective made up of artists with backgrounds in the entertainment arts. They are based in the Portland Metro Area.
For my submission, I was inspired by the beautifully decrepit graves I toured in both London and Paris. It was bittersweet to walk amongst the sculptures and artwork that adorned these graves, yet see them in such a worn and deteriorated condition. However, It also inspired me to see the life that grew amongst the graves: the plants, the trees, the mosses that decorated them.
In creating this piece, I wanted to incorporate new (to me!) methods of model making-primarily 3D printing. I was able to use both resin printing and FDM printing to create my grave while using my traditional model making skills to complete the work.
I hope to further the exploration of this theme and continue making more graves.
